Notes On The Power of Positive People

‘Notes On’ is our new editorial series inviting our community to delve into a topic they believe is shaping Europe’s digital landscape.

For our second edition, dive into the words of Lovie Judge Rachel Saywell-Burr, Founder and Managing Director of Talent Atelier. Working with global reach, their team connects skilled talent with some of the leading companies across fashion, beauty, wellness and digital marketing.

Explore her view on what it takes to propel your brand into the mainstream in 2024: inclusivity is the new exclusivity, and why it’s essential to build connection within your orbit, not just community.

By Rachel Saywell-Burr

We’re always on the lookout for companies who manage to scale up during stickier patches (2024 who..?), and thus, we get to see the Rise of the North.

Anyone with TikTok will have seen Made by Mitchell and P.Louise constantly being promoted. Their Lives are the epitome of proper trading, and as chaotic as it can appear, no marketing team could craft the screams coming out of my phone as they hit targets of over £1 million in just 12 hours on TikTop Shop.

More Manchester success stories are REFY, with their considered beauty line launching in Selfridges, as well as the fashion labels Manière de Voir and Adanola taking hotspots in London’s Oxford Street and Regent Street, where their appeal is global.

But what about the people? These brands go HARD on making their teams feel part of something. They’re not cliquey, they’re as inclusive as the products they sell and the young founders are keen to ensure that their companies foster a working environment where entrepreneurship and a slice of the pie mean their teams are dedicated to the cause.

Feeling a connection is the key to getting the brightest talent to join and stay in a brand. It’s perhaps something that the larger businesses we work with have lost along the way.

Where do we go from here?

Perhaps having a little more fun and taking ourselves a bit less seriously is where we can make the biggest impact? Creating an environment where entrepreneurs are not only creating a positive working culture but are also often becoming entertainers in their own right means we’re getting a look under the hood of some of these brands and want to be a part of their happy world.
